What does that one shift actually pay?

Enter your basic hourly wage and the shift. The tool splits the hours minute by minute across the surcharge windows of the Dutch private security CAO and shows what is added on top of your wage.

CAO term: 18 December 2024 to 27 December 2026 (version 3, July 2026)

Checked on: 1 October 2026

Official text: CAO Particuliere Beveiliging (PDF, beveiligingsbranche.nl)

An FNV copy and a declaration of general binding force in the Dutch Government Gazette (Staatscourant 2024, 2109) also exist. Where they differ, the official text prevails.

1 · Your figures

One basic hourly wage for all rows. The calculation runs as you type; there is no button to press.

Your gross hourly wage before surcharges. Every percentage is calculated on this amount.

End time equal to or earlier than the start time means the shift runs past midnight.

On a public holiday: 100%, with no stacking with time windows and no extra holiday hours.

4 · The percentages from the CAO

These amounts are percentages of your basic hourly wage, not of an already increased rate.

Two surcharges at the same time

If a public holiday falls inside a time window you get both surcharges, each calculated on your basic hourly wage. A public holiday on a Saturday therefore gives 50% + 35% = 85%. A public holiday between 00:00 and 07:00 gives 50% + 20% = 70%.

On-call contract

On an on-call contract on a public holiday the surcharge is 100%. The time-window surcharges and the extra holiday hours then do not apply.

New Year's Eve

From 16:00 on 31 December the surcharge is 100%. Before 16:00 the ordinary windows apply (night 20%, evening 10%, weekend 35%). New Year's Eve is not a public holiday, so no 50% is added.

Extra holiday hours

If a public holiday falls on a working day (Monday to Friday), up to 7.2 extra holiday hours are added per holiday. They are not paid hours, so they are shown separately.

Shift types (a rough guide only)

Day shift: 06:00-20:00. Evening shift: ends after 20:00 and at the latest 02:00. Night shift: the part inside 00:00-07:00. These names say nothing about the surcharge; the clock time always decides.

5 · Public holidays 2025, 2026 and 2027

What counts as a public holiday in the calculation. Liberation Day appears only in years that are a multiple of five (2025, 2030). King's Day moves to 26 April when 27 April is a Sunday.

Time zone and daylight saving

The tool works with the Dutch clock time you type in. Nothing is converted to UTC and daylight saving is not modelled. In the night of the clock change, 02:00-03:00 either happens twice or not at all; those two nights a year cannot be entered exactly here. For payroll over such a night, use the hours actually worked from your time registration.
